15 Trigger Points to Help You End Your Summer Laughing

August 2023 has been a humdinger of a month.

Wildfires turned parts of Hawaii into toast.

Whirling winds in Germany turned trees into splinters.

Heavy rains in some regions swept away cars and houses.

Extreme heat in triple digits made thermometers long for Mercury to return to retrograding.

Still, life is what we choose it to be.  For every low point, there is also a trigger to elevate your mood.  Take laughter for example.  Laughter is a high vibrational energy that lowers blood pressure, releases endorphins and contributes to general well-being.  Plus, it’s fun.

Here are 15 samples to help you laugh your way to autumn’s arrival.

#1  August is National Eye Exam Month, which brings up an amazing revelation as to why the eye chart begins with E.  It upholds that spelling rule, I before E except after “SEE”.

#2  Romance Awareness Month.  I’m pretty sure this was established for late bloomers since Valentine’s Day is in February.

#3  August is National Catfish Month.  I’m excited about this.  I’m 70 years old.  I’ve seen a lot of cats hunt for their food.  But I’ve never seen one hook a fish.

#4  Aug. 20 is World Mosquito Day.  I know it’s tough to believe, but every year, this holiday is swarming with activity.

#5  Aug. 21 is Senior Citizens Day.  A lot of seniors I know celebrate this holiday with a sense of newness.  They arrive at the party with new knees, new hips and new teeth.

#6  Aug. 22 is National Tooth Fairy Day.  This is also celebrated on Feb. 28.  There’s a good reason.  Due to inflation, the cost of teeth is up 10 percent, so fairies are having to make two trips and two payments per tooth.

#7  In August 1865, Lewis Carroll published “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland”.  While the book became a popular classic, Carroll said it’s definitely fiction because the process wasn’t as fun as a tea party.

#8  Aug. 24 is National Waffle Day.  I won’t say this day is overrated, but people who celebrate it do tend to get a tad syrupy.

#9  Aug. 25 is Kiss and Make Up Day.  I love this day.  I always learn some great eyeliner tips from Gene Simmons.

#10  In August 2006, naturalists Chris Atkins and Michael Taylor discovered the world’s tallest tree in the Redwood National Park.  It stood 379 feet tall and was named Hyperion.  Opponents hated that.  They thought the tree should be named Bob.

#11  In August 2015, President Barack Obama officially renamed Alaska’s Mt. McKinley back to its Native American name – Denali.  He said changing the name is the first step to take if you want to move a mountain.

#12  August is International Pirate Month.  But before you begin to make plans for a family celebration, remember the day is rated “RRRRRR.”

#13  August is National Catfish Month.  I plan to celebrate by telling all the foreign fraudsters contending they want to be my beaus and suiters that my bank account will only get them through Thursday.

#14  August is Family Fun Month.  I thought about celebrating this.  But if I’m going to pull it off, I’m going to need to buy a new family – one that’s fun.

#15  On Aug. 31, 1994, a Pentium computer beat world chess champion Garry Kasparov.  AI later said, “I may never be able to replace a human, but I can beat them at their own game.  My strategy is if you can’t beat ‘em cheat ‘em.”

You can have a month’s worth of laughter delivered to your inbox on the first of each month.

Just click here to subscribe to my email/newsletter list.  In addition to a monthly joke-a-day calendar, you will receive two newsletters each month and my guarantee that I will never sell your information.  I can’t guarantee greedy fraudsters won’t “borrow” it for their own benefit.  My gut feeling is they already have.
